Dar Es Salaam shortly refereed to as Dar is the major commercial city of the country with a very busy life at around 4 million population and yet a fastest growing city after all.

Being it a center city, Dar Es Salaam has the most exciting life with a lot of entertainment regimes, International hotels, restaurants, shopping centers and attractions.


However not every part of  Dar Es Salaam is beautiful, some part of it can be annoying and feel uncomfortable to be around. 

with a mix of people from different regions, Dar Es Salaam host almost people of every Tanzanian tribes.

National Museum
Dar Es Salaam national museum originally established as King George V memorial center, preserves the history, culture, as well as displaying natural environment of the country. 

If you are interested to know about the culture of Tanzania this is a place to go while you are in Dar.

There are exciting exhibitions to view as well including, fossils uncovered by Dr Leakey to mark human evolution, to a bicycle that was made totally out of woods, from frame to tires.

+ Bongoyo Island
Bongoyo Island Shores
Bongoyo island is an uninhabited island found about 2 miles north of Dar Es Salaam, and probably the most visited island of the four Dar Es Salaam marine reserve islands, others being Mbudya, Pangavini and Fungu Yasin 

Bongoyo island has two beaches for you to enjoy, sharks lagoon, coral life and more.

To have more fun on this island you can as well book for a fishing trip and short cruises.

Here are few tips about Bongoyo

  • If you are with children it is best to bring with you something good to eat because food on the island is kind of basic
  • If you plan to take a walk around bring with you boots or trainers because of the island's hard rocks.

+ Village Museum
Kijiji Cha Makumbusho
This is a place where you can get ideas about the traditions and customs of Tanzania. The local refer to it as"Kijiji cha makumbusho" meaning a historical village.

As the name suggests,the village museum displays a lifestyle that has been around long ago before modern lifestyle took over among the locals.

+ Mbudya Island
German ruins
Like Bongoyo island Mdudya is also an uninhabited island that holds the ruins of Germany outpost and a tomb that is thought to be of the descendant of Prophet Mohamed. 

Upon beliefs some visitors visit the tomb to pay homage and making sacrifices for cleansing and fortune.


Mbudya has nice sandy beaches that offer great opportunities to dive, in some of these beaches you can enjoy barbecued  fish with chips and drinks. The nature of the island is covered with palm trees and baobab trees.

The rare Coconut crab is also found in Mbudya, you would want to see this huh?

+ Botanical Gardens
Botanical Gardens

These gardens were laid by the German director of Agriculture Professor Stuhlmann during the colonial era in the 19th century.
The gardens were established as trial plots to taste different type of plantation and trees to check if they could grow in such climate.

Ever since the garden was preserved and now displaying incredible plants like red hibiscus,   bougainvillea and scarlet frame trees. its just colorful.
